John and Mary were both born in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and arrived in New South Wales, Australia in 1860. They married in Ireland in 1822 and had ten children. To meet this criterion, we know that they must have English, Scottish or Australian heritage and been directly related to Edward Emanuel Randall (1869-1952) and Isabella Marion Cowan (1869-1929) and their ancestors or descendants.
Edward was born in Shropshire, England and arrived in Queensland, Australia aboard the ship Famenoth in 1888. He married Isabella at Grafton in 1892 and had six children. The descendants of the union between Edward and Isabella created the direct ancestors of this branch of the Randall family.

The Johnston family, as well as many other families, is mentioned in the “Pioneer family album : the pictorial history of an Australian family by Ross Wilson”. Although the book is out of print, copies can be viewed at several major libraries in Australia.
